One Weekend Down….

7:30 Sunday evening and I’m sitting enjoying a glass of white wine. House is clean and I’m ready to face Monday. Yes I know, I know….I probably could do without the wine, but what can I say….it’s leftover from the holidays and I just have to get rid of it ;)

Joking aside….how was my first weekend of 2013? Well…..let me fill you in. It was pretty darn good. Yesterday I had a bit of a lazy start to the day. I sat around in my PJ’s watching home reno shows! I love those shows and for some reason they are on back to back to back on Saturday mornings. I had big plans to get going early with cleaning and cooking…..buuuuut it didn’t workout that way. Ah well, it’s the freakin weekend baby! My hubby and I got our butt’s in gear and went out to shop for a bit. Once we got home it was later in the afternoon than we had thought and we were both a little pooped! I had a bit of a catnap. That was a big mistake! I was very unmotivated when I woke up. I had thought we would go snowshoeing but it was getting dark by that point and it was a no go :( I had the brief thought of “Ahhhhhh….forget it, but I didn’t!” I went out for a 4km walk instead. It was a beautiful evening and in the end I was glad I went.

I’ve been a little torn with the whole walking for fitness. As I’ve mentioned before there is a little part of my brain that tells me it’s not “real” excercise! Ack….that negative voice! Hate when it sabotages my efforts. It was a nice walk and it did burn calories and most important…It’s a heck of a lot better than giving into the laziness and lying around watching TV. I figure that counts for something. I was a little disappointed with dinner last night. My breakfast and lunch were great. Fresh fruit, toast and cottage cheese for breakfast. A “BIG” salad for lunch. Mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, roasted sunflower seeds, cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Breakfast…I took a bite of the toast and remembered I wanted to get a pic :)

I was on! I had a recipe in mind for dinner, but again that nap threw me off of my plan and I ran out of time to make dinner and honestly I didn’t feel like it when I got home. Sooooo dinner was home-made poutine and appetizers that we had kicking around from the holidays. Eek!! It was yummy, but totally not healthy! Now if I’m being positive at least the poutine wasn’t take out ;) The fries were baked not deep-fried, I didn’t load on the cheese and the gravy is low-calorie mushroom gravy. So not horrible, but, yes here comes the but….I had beer while watching TV last night. D’oh! Really need to cut down on the bevvies. Hey, I’m not perfect, so I’ll cut myself some slack. It was a relaxing Saturday with the hubby.

This morning dawned and I was motivated to get everything done today that I didn’t yesterday. I started with a yummy breakfast. Poached egg on whole wheat toast and fresh fruit. After breakfast I was off. First was to get the enormous pile of laundry started. Next was to take down the Christmas decorations. I always have mixed feelings on this task. I get to a point after the holidays where I realize “Ok, I’ve reached my saturation of Christmas decorations time to come down” then when I take them down I feel a little sad that I won’t be able to put them up again for 11 months. I know I’m a weirdo. Next was cleaning. After running around the house for 2.5hours everything was done! Ahhhh I love when the house is all nice and clean. It was a nice mild day out and we had some fresh snow on the ground, so hubby and I headed out for some snowshoeing. We headed to another one of our bike trails. It was pretty busy with cross-country skiers and other people snow shoeing. Felt like we were part of a little outdoor community! Everyone saying hi as they pass each other on the trails. It was really pretty and peaceful. We had a great 5km trek. I really felt it by the end. The fresh snow made it a great workout! I burned 650 calories. Not bad…..

Once we got home I started dinner right away, otherwise I would have sat down and not gotten to it. It was the recipe that I didn’t get to last night. Shahi paneer. This is a dish that my hubby and I order all the time. It’s really tasty and simple. Which is the best part. Crushed tomatoes, spices, paneer and a little cream. It was really good for a first attempt. If I do say so myself :)

This was a great weekend. I’ve come to learn something very important along this journey. I have learned what a “healthy lifestyle” means for me. It means finding the balance between living a happy, healthy active life versus living a restrictive rigid life. This weekend is a really great illustration of what a healthy lifestyle is for me. A little of this and a little of that. Being active and being happy…..pretty simple.

TTFN…..

That is hilarious! As I sit here and read this, I have a glass of wine in my hand. And it’s for the exact same reason as you … to get it out of the house!! I’m just glad I’m not the only one who does that. :) :) But it sounds like you deserved it after all the cleaning you did today!!!

Hahaha! Nope you are not the only one! It’s either drink it or pour it out and I’m sure as heck not going to do that ;) ! It’s probably not the “healthiest” way to relax but…ah well!
